This art sale* is a fundraiser towards an important legal campaign.
Sarah Finch, a local resident, is challenging Surrey County Council in
the courts over their decision to allow a massive expansion of oil
production at Horse Hill in Surrey.
Last year, the Council gave permission for four more oil wells and
20 years of commercial oil production at this rural site – in a time of
climate emergency. Sarah is represented by some top environmental
lawyers, who will argue the case at a two-day hearing
in November.
If she wins, it will set an important precedent for national policy. At present national policy is outdated and makes oil and gas exploration a priority. A victory in court will help bring the planning regime into step with climate policy and the
climate emergency.
